ALMBC Advocacy Update 24|09|20

With the first round of RISE applications now in play we are hearing first hand, confirmation of our concerns regarding the eligibility flaws in this package when it comes to operators in the supply chain that don't put events on themselves.

We also remain concerned about the effectiveness of both the LMA and RISE grants in supporting an industry that is still largely unable to put shows on at viable levels.

With this in mind we are in the process of drafting a policy to take to government that is designed more as a survival package rather than a stimulus package. The intent of the package will be to deliver cashflow support for businesses to help them cover operating costs through a sustained period of shutdown. We are seeking input from members and across the music industry as to the design of this package and assistance with lobbying to ensure we present a united voice to government.

A centrepiece of our lobbying to date has been underlining the important role our sector will play in Australia's economic and mental health recovery - something we will be unable to participate in if we have lost the core of our skilled workers and businesses in the intervening time.

We continue to brief Minister Fletcher's office as well as opening up dialogue with other Ministers including Michaelia Cash, Minister for Employment, Skills, Small and Family Business.

We enjoyed a very supportive reception from Minister Cash's office who acknowledged our sector is in the unique position of being hit harder than almost any other - having been locked down since March and with limited capacity to pivot to other revenue streams.

In addition to being open to consider submissions from ALMBC themselves, Minister Cash's office is also undertaking to provide valuable introductions to other Ministerial offices.

We acknowledge the First Nations people as the original inhabitants of Australia. We recognise, respect and celebrate the cultural distinctions of First Nations people and value their rich and positive contribution to the broader Australian society.
