Hearing Protection For Music Workers
The ALMBC is interested in supporting ear/hearing protection for music workers.
ALMBC Board member, previous Chair and Owner of Select Music agency, Stephen Wade, says, “There are thousands upon thousands of music industry people who all have tinnitus from years of being exposed to volumes that are damaging from day one. In the aviation industry or any heavy mechanical industry they have signage everywhere and people must wear ear protection. Its common sense & time we start to warn our workers the same way – its not high risk for people attending shows as most don’t go to enough shows to do any long term damage. It’s the artists on stage, the crew, the managers, agents, crew, label reps, publicists, promoters, staff working the bars at live music venues.”
The music industry has taken forward leaps and bounds in terms of mental health for music industry workers and organisations like Support Act have been offering exceptional programs in this area.
However, it is also time to do something about the long-term hearing health of music workers; to listen to what workers are saying about the issue and to warn and protect the hearing of those who work in the industry.
Stephen Wade continues, “The anxiety and quality of life affecting people with tinnitus is terrible, and it could be largely preventable. So lets do something about it”.
To get the ball rolling, the ALMBC wants to hear from any of you that have developed Tinnitus or hearing damage from working in the industry. We want to hear your stories and your thoughts about what should be done.
Get in touch and tell us your story.
