ABC Backs Arena Ticket Levy
Australia’s favourite Auntie, the ABC, is backing the push for an Arena Ticket Levy in Australia, following a successful venture by the ALMBC to bring the UK model’s founder, Mark Davyd, from the Music Venue Trust UK, to Brisbane for BIGSOUND 2024.
Davyd’s visit highlighted the benefits of the model already delivered in the UK through a panel session at BIGSOUND, as well as a members-only session for the ALMBC.
ALMBC Chair, Howard Adams, says, “The idea of an Arena Ticket Levy in Australia is really gaining momentum, taking one dollar from every major arena show over 5,500 attendees.
That dollar is spread evenly between the consumer, the artist, the venue, and the promoter, and those funds drop into a charitable trust from which grassroots music venues can make fast turnaround grant applications for small projects up to $15,000.
The Charitable Trust would be governed transparently and allow smaller, independent venues to seek support for a range of projects.”
