Study into the viability of a mutual insurance model for music festivals
Invitation to a sector briefing
Join Creative Australia to hear about an industry-led study into rising insurance costs and alternative insurance solutions for Australian music festivals.
Date: Wednesday 26 March 2025, 3.00-3.30pm (AEDT)
In response to the ongoing insurance challenges facing the Australian festival sector, FEAT. has been investigating the reasons behind rising Public Liability insurance costs for festivals and exploring alternative insurance solutions.
In particular, this study is investigating the viability of an insurance mutual, that is, a cooperative insurance model that would be owned by the music festival industry.
Insurance mutuals have been successfully established by other industries that have struggled with the availability and affordability of insurance via the standard insurance market.
This work is supported by Creative Australia and Music Australia, with industry backing from the Australian Festival Association, Australian Live Music Business Council, Folk Alliance Australia, Festival City Adelaide, and the Country Music Association of Australia.
To support this research, Creative Australia are inviting all festival organisers to share insurance information via this Survey Form.
Thank you to all the music festivals who have already participated in this work! This briefing is for those who are yet to engage.
The viability of this potential alternative insurance solution cannot be determined without the industry’s participation.
