Australian artists launch their own national voice with the Artists Alliance of Australia
The ALMBC welcomes the launch of the Artists Alliance of Australia (AAA), a new artist-led, not-for-profit organisation set up to represent, connect, support and advocate for Australian artists.
The AAA was founded by Kristy Lee Peters (KLP) and Holly Rankin (Jack River) and launches with more than 150 Australian artists on board. The organisation says there has never been a body like it in Australia. It takes its lead from artist-led groups overseas such as the Featured Artists Coalition in the UK and the Music Artists Coalition in the US.
An interim steering committee is in place, with DOBBY, Heidi Lenffer, Isabella Manfredi, Josh Pyke, Kira Puru, Paul Dempsey, Sukhdeep Singh (L-FRESH The LION), Zindzi Okenyo and Thomas Honeywell working alongside Rankin and Peters. Artists backing the launch include Bernard Fanning, Kate Ceberano, Tina Arena, Thelma Plum, Spiderbait, G Flip, John Butler, Matt Corby, Montaigne, Katie Noonan, Ben Lee, What So Not, Lime Cordiale, Peking Duk, Troy Cassar-Daley, Sneaky Sound System and Nina Las Vegas.
The AAA’s view is that Australian artists drive the entertainment industry both here and overseas, and that decisions on AI, copyright, artist rights and government policy have a direct effect on their careers. Its first priority is advocating for the protection of copyright in Australia, and that work starts straight away.
A strong, organised artist voice fits well alongside the ALMBC’s work for the venues, promoters, managers and small businesses that make up the grassroots live music sector. Artists and the businesses that put them on stage share many of the same concerns, and the ALMBC looks forward to working with the AAA wherever our advocacy overlaps.
