Following sustained advocacy by the ALMBC over a number of years, the federal government have widened the scope of the focus of their review of unfair practices, beyond the impacts to consumers.
The ALMBC has argued the case in every submission that unfair practices exist also between businesses – especially where major global companies engage with small, local, emerging artists, managers, agents, production companies as well as other vendors such as merchandise, etc.
The Federal Treasury has released a consultation paper seeking information about unfair trading practices in business-to-business dealings, to inform government decision making on laws to protect small businesses.
This includes when a small business:
- sells products or services to another business
- buys goods from another business to sell to the public.
The ALMBC is currently creating a response and will keep you updated.
Please get in touch directly if you have examples of unfair trading practices that have impacted your business.
