What is a grass roots music venue?
The ALMBC has developed this simple definition – “A Grassroots Music Venue is a venue run by music lovers, predominately features live music and is a cultural incubator that takes risks on investing in emerging talent.”
To be clearer, here are a few points:
- Musicians and audiences in your town know that you are a grass roots venue
- The focus of your venue is on live music (including live original music) and the venue’s reputation is made by the music it programmes.
- You take risks with programming and often make no major profit, investing your time and effort into the future potential of artists and live music in general
- You are known as a partner or leader within your local music community – collaborating and sharing knowledge and expertise with others in the scene
Note – Foundation Members, Professional partners and / or Friends Of The ALMBC (overseas owned companies) are not included in this offer.
