Can Australian Music Survive in the Age of Spotify?
ALMBC’s Ant McKenna just drove from Melbourne to Adelaide in the lead up to the ALMBC Indie-Con Breaky, to:
- Meet people doing amazing things in live music across this region
- Bring attention to those cool things
- Connect people with each other
- Support the announcement last Friday that Mount Gambier will host the Regional & Remote Music Summit in 2026 (nice work Music SA & Music Australia)
All to support regional touring between Melb & Adelaide to be simpler and more financially viable for live music acts from small & emerging through to major acts.
Towns, venues, festivals & businesses included:
- Yarraville – Kindred Studios
- Barwon Heads – Barwon Heads Hotel, Queenscliff Music fest
- Torquay – Torquay Hotel, Dave Batty, Collective Artists
- Warrnambool – Whalers, Frolic & Co, Dart & Marlin, Goom Fest, Warrnambool Council
- Portland – Casa de la Bodega, Arts Centre, Royal, Mac’s
- Mount Gambier – Globe, (plus – didn’t visit but heard about – South Aussie Hotel, Bellum, Woolstore) – Cave City Promotions (Streve) and Bronte Ellard
- Port Elliot – Yeo Haus
Of course – that is just the tip of the iceberg – but you have to start somewhere!
Thanks to all those who helped connect Ant with the right people in each location.
If you are thinking of touring between Melbourne & Adelaide (whether you’re a solist that would draw 30 punters or a larger act that would sell many hundreds of tix, get in touch – whatever we can do to build touring between these towns and support these businesses, the ALMBC will do it!
