Sydney nightclub Club 77, recently relaunched, has started CSS, an independent electronic music booking agency, event promoter and touring company that draws on the club’s roughly 30 years in Sydney’s underground scene. It is led by Mac Weily and Dane Gorrel, with creative direction from Gabrielle White, and will focus on artist development, bookings and touring through long term partnerships and transparent industry practices.
The inaugural roster is Barney Kato, Barney in the Tunnel, Mazzacles, Phil Smart and Reenie, with more signings expected. CSS will also work with Australian promoters, music venues and festivals to coordinate tours for international acts, and its first international program starts in November with German DJ and producer Move D and Manchester selector Tarzsa confirmed for Australian tours.
Weily described CSS as a natural extension of the club’s existing work, saying the aim is to “back artists we believe in and bring people together through music” and to “give our roster the support to grow on their own terms”.
