Government partnership for $150K study for live music.
The Australian and Tasmanian governments have announced a jointly funded $150,000 feasibility study to explore the development of live music precincts in Hobart and Launceston and identify ways to reduce regulatory barriers for the sector.
The study will examine how special entertainment precincts can support venues, artists and audiences, building on recommendations from the federal parliamentary inquiry into Australia’s live music industry.
Federal Arts Minister Tony Burke said the project would help identify practical reforms tailored to Tasmania’s unique music ecosystem, while Tasmanian Arts Minister Madeleine Ogilvie highlighted the opportunity to create vibrant performance spaces and strengthen career pathways for local artists.
The initiative reflects growing government recognition of the cultural and economic value of live music and aims to support a stronger, more sustainable future for Tasmania’s music community.
The ALMBC commends this interest from the Tasmanian government in live music and night time economy infrastructure and the federal government for backing this financially.
